AP PHOTOS: Fire sweeps through Haiti market after elections
A mysterious fire swept
through sections of a Haitian market hours after polls closed in
national elections, leaving scrap-wood stalls and inventory in ashes.
Vendors picked through the ashes Monday looking for anything they could salvage. A lucky few found half-burnt sacks of vegetables and grain. But most could only recover blackened scraps of sheet metal roofing.

AP PHOTOS: Islamic site near Mecca among few still preserved
Just outside the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia lies one of Islam's most
important historical sites — a cave where, according to tradition, the
Prophet Muhammad spent time in seclusion, contemplation and
self-reflection.
It was here, inside Hira Cave located near the top of a steep hill called Noor Mountain, where Muslims believe God revealed to the prophet the first verses of the Quran through the angel Jebril, or Gabriel as he is named in English.

Rumble in the Jungle. In one of boxing's most memorable moments,
Muhammad Ali stopped the fearsome George Foreman to recapture the
heavyweight title in the impoverished African nation of Zaire.

slowly regained pockets of territory. While IS still controls a large
swath of Iraq and neighboring Syria, the group has lost an estimated 40
percent of the territory it once held in Iraq, according to U.S.-led

Lights out: Cities worldwide mark the 10th annual Earth Hour
Cities around the world turned out the lights Saturday evening to
mark the 10th annual Earth Hour, a global movement dedicated to
protecting the planet and highlighting the effects of climate change.
As night came on, the lights went out in cities from South Korea to the United States in what the World Wildlife Fund describes as a moment of solidarity for climate action. The group sponsors the event and says people in 178 countries and territories had planned to participate.

Reformists leading in Iran parliament vote
Reformists and moderate conservatives are leading in the race for
parliament according to early election results, an indication President
Hassan Rouhani may face a more friendly house to pursue his domestic
agenda.
Early returns Saturday morning from Friday's parliamentary polls show that none of the three competing political factions will win a majority alone in the 290-seat parliament but reformists seeking greater democratic changes are heading to win their strongest presence in parliament since 2004 at the expense of hard-liners.

AP PHOTOS: Thousands brave the cold to cross sea to Greece
The seas are rough and cold. The wind is bitter. The overcrowded
smugglers' boats are far from seaworthy, with many unable even to make
it across a few miles of water — and the bodies of those who drown as
the boats sink are fished out of the churning seas day by day.
Yet tens of thousands of men, women and children fleeing violence and poverty in their homelands continue to risk their lives this winter to make the relatively short but dangerous journey from the Turkish coast to nearby Greek islands, seeking a better future in Europe.
